How to survey for an Alexander Windows Bi-fold door
Measure the Aperture –
Width – Measure at 3 different levels and use the smallest width for your order.
Diagonal Measure – Measuring the diagonals of the aperture corner to corner will enable you to check if it is square.
You need to order the door (overall height and width) 10mm shorter and 10mm narrower than the opening that you plan to install it into. This gives you the tolerance to pack out the frame of the door using plastic or timber wedges or packers when installing it to get the frame square and plumb. If the frame is ordered the same size as the opening, you will have difficulty getting the door in position and you will not be able to adjust the level of the frame. Remember your opening is unlikely to be perfectly square.

Considerations before ordering

  • Doors must be viewed from the OUTSIDE when ordering.
  • Which way do want the door to fold, into or outside the property?
  • Which way should the doors travel when opening: right, left or out from the middle?
  • Does your customer want a ‘Traffic’ door as a main opener for daily use?

Think about the floor level, remember to allow for carpet, tiles, wooden floors or patio slabs. Ensure that the door will open over the door or patio! Our outer frame includes the bottom track.

Installing Alexander Windows Bi-fold doors
Before you do anything, if there is already a window or door fitted in the opening, BEFORE REMOVING IT, measure the opening and checkmeasure the new bi-fold door. There is no point in removing the old door or window if the new one will not fit for whatever reason!

Glazing Bi-fold Doors
Step 1 – Remove all glazing beads noting their original positions for later.
Step 2 – Apply bridging packers supplied into the corners of the panels and place normal glass packers on top of these as required.
Step 3 – For doors to operate smoothly, you must toe and heel each glass unit. Always start from the bottom hinge position.
Step 4 – Insert all glazing beads in the same positions from which they were removed, width beads first. Now insert wedge gasket between the glass unit and bead.

Finishing
A low modulas neutral cure perimeter sealant should be used for perimeter sealing. Make sure that the slotted drainage channels at the base of the door are free of debris. Check the operation of the master door and then of the sliding doors.

Maintenance
Our bi-fold doors are designed for minimum maintenance. Keep the doors clean and periodically clear any debris out of the stainless steel track & channel area to ensure smooth operation. Wipe or wash doors using a sponge and warm soapy water. DO NOT USE chemical cleaners.
Caustic material such as plaster dust can be very corrosive. Keep doors and all hardware clear of this at all times. Failure to follow these guidelines may affect your guarantee.
